In this research axis, we aim at modeling the different verbal and co-verbal signals involved in human communication, such as the speech prodody, facial expression, hands gestures, eye gaze, body posture, breathing patterns, etc.). Such signals can be recorded simultaneously on several humans on our experimental plateform MICAL.

 

 

 

The goal is to better underdand the so-called "perceptation-action" loops involded in a face-to-face interaction situation. Those extracted fundamental knownledges aim at being transferd to virtual avatars and humanoid robots (via statistical models) in order to improve their socio-communicative skills. In particular, we work on a customized version of the iCub robot which we call NINA.
